TiVo passes 4.5 million subscribers

DVR maker TiVo said it has hit a record 4.5 million global customers for its set-top boxes – both through retail and pay TV subscriptions.

The firm said that the new 4.5 million “milestone” means that it has surpassed its previous record number of 4.45 million hit over eight years ago in December of 2006 – helped by a “growing roster” of pay TV operators around the world.

TiVo, which now claims partnerships with 12 global operators, previously recorded 4.2 million subscribers in its fiscal fourth quarter results announced February, which at the time marked 34% growth year-on-year.

TiVo’s operator partners include Suddenlink, Atlantic Broadband and Mediacom in the US. Internationally, its partners are Virgin Media in the UK, ONO in Spain and Com Hem in Scandinavia.

“Additionally, recently acquired Digitalsmiths’ ongoing partnerships with Time Warner Cable, Foxtel and Bright House, among others, further intertwines TiVo with an ever-growing list of operators across the spectrum,” the firm said.
