Al Jazeera launches in Sweden

Al Jazeera has launched in Sweden as part of the Teracom-backed Boxer digital-terrestrial TV platform.

Al Jazeera’s English-languagte version has secured a licence from the Swedish Broadcasting Authority and the channel will air 24 hours a day on Channel 38.

“The granting of this licence by the Swedish Broadcasting Authority is an endorsement of the real appetite in Sweden for international news and storytelling. We know from the number of people visiting our website from Sweden, that it is a fertile ground for global news,” said Ehab Sahawneh, executive director of marketing and distribution at Al Jazeera.

“The country’s global outlook and attitude toward diversity makes it a perfect fit for Al Jazeera’s range of award-winning news and programmes coverage.”

Boxer also recently added pay TV channels BBC Knowledge and History to the platform.
