Telefónica sees fourth quarter TV boost

Telefónica had 3.6 million pay TV customers at the end of 2013, up 8% or 266,000 net additions on the figure for 2012.

The overall number included 673,000 subscribers in Spain, with a significant improvement in the fourth quarter reversing a downward trend over the first part of the year. The company added 63,000 subs in the three months to December.

Pay TV subs in the Czech Republic grew 10% year-on-8year to 156,000.

Telefónica chairmain César Alierta committed the company to doubling its fibre network coverage in Spain to 7.1 million this year.

The company added 100,000 fibre customers in the country in the quarter, taking its total to 594,000.
