Motive Television plans Freeview tablet service by World Cup

TV technology firm Motive Television said that it expects to launch a UK tablet service that will provide full Freeview DTT viewing and ‘red button’ content in time for this year’s World Cup.

In a business update, the firm said that it expects the service to be available to over 20 million tablet owners in Great Britain by June 2014, with the service to be made available in co-operation with hardware partner iCube – the maker of the TVizen tuner-antennas.

“The Company plans to roll out its Tablet TV model internationally with media partners in each country.  Tablet Television has appeal anywhere that digital terrestrial broadcasting becomes a reality and tablet ownership is expected to top 900 million worldwide by 2017,” said Motive Television.

It added that ‘Tablet Television’ in the US is on track for product and market testing in Spring 2014, with consumer trials and a full-scale commercial launch expected at the beginning of September 2014.
