Slovakia’s Towercom renews SES capacity deal

Slovakian telco and TV operator, Towercom, has renewed its deal with satellite operator SES to use its transponder on the Astra 3B satellite at the 23.5 degrees East orbital position.

Towercom uses multiple transponders at 23.5 degrees East to deliver TV services, including HD content distribution, to the Czech and Slovakian markets.

It also provides capacity to Skylink, a satellite TV platform that serves more than 2 million customers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

“This agreement illustrates continuity of our partnerships in a highly competitive environment. We are honoured that Towercom is relying on us to deliver best-in-class broadcasting services and look forward to continuing our successful cooperation,” said SES’s chief commercial officer, Ferdinand Kayser, commenting on the long-term renewal.

At the same time, SES signed contracts to provide its ‘Astra Connect for communities’ satellite broadband service to 15 German villages in several regions of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that have received subsidies from the EU and other state and regional public funds for broadband development.
