UPC Austria sees VoD use grow strongly

Liberty Global-owned cable operator UPC Austria has said that its video-on-demand service saw 5.5 million sessions ordered last year, surpassing the previous year’s count by about 45% or 1.7 million views.

According to Gerald Schwanzer, head of marketing and sales at UPC Austria, UPC now offers over 7,000 on-demand titles, with almost half being available free of charge.

The operator has recently added catch-up TV from 13th Street and Syfy as well as English-language courses from English Club TV to its offering.

The operator said it had seen strong growth in the consumption of HD titles, with over two times as many films ordered in HD last year as in 2012.
