Belgian cable operator Telenet has confirmed it is to enter a joint venture with the country’s Pro League for live coverage of top-tier Belgian football on a dedicated Jupiler Pro league channel once its current contract ends in May.
Telenet said it would make the channel available to all interested TV platform operators on a non-exclusive basis, while highlight packages will be offered to open net channels.
Telenet said that a proposal had been submitted to Pro League clubs and that, if approved, an official tender would b issued in which will all public and commercial broadcasters would be able to participate.
Telenet said that the deal means that Pro League clubs will be able to benefit from guaranteed income from TV rights and will also be able to share in the joint venture’s profits.
