Wuaki.tv hits 1 million users

Over-the-top video service Wuaki.tv now claims more than one million global customers, after adding more than 125,000 new users in the UK since launching there in September.

Wuaki.tv, which is owned by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, was founded in Spain in 2009 and is planning further European launches this year in France, Germany and Italy.

“The response to Wuaki.tv from UK users has been phenomenal, and shows we were correct to select it as the first market to begin our European expansion,” said Jacinto Roca, founder and CEO of Wuaki.tv.

“It’s interesting to see the difference in subscription vs. rental streaming. From the top titles streamed since our full launch in September, it is clear families are using the Wuaki.tv Selection very often during weekdays. Weekends are dominated by new releases, mainly driven by peak rentals on Friday and Saturday evenings,” added Roca.
