Volia expands interactive TV functionality

Ukrainian pay TV operator Volia has added new interactive functionality to its Volia Smart HD set-top box, rolled out more VOD content and launched linear channels on its OTT service.

The new set-top features include time-shift, catch-up and multiscreen capabilities, with the firm first announcing earlier this year that it would boost the functionality of its HD boxes for new and existing subscribers.

Volia has also added a new video-on-demand service called ‘Volia Cinema’ with thousands of hours of blockbusters, which will be available on tablets and smartphones. This is in addition to the existing VoD options that Volia already offers its customers.

At the same time the firm said that its new ‘Volia Smart Touch’ service will let subscribers to its Volia Smart HD OTT service access than 130 linear TV channels and watch movies from Volia’s online library on their Android and iOS mobile devices.

Volia has also teamed up with Samsung to allow customers to access a basic pacage of Volia Smart Channels – consisting of 50 national TV channels and 2 HD-channels – via an app on Samsung smart TVs.

“Delivering our promises made to Volia customers and to market in March 2013, we are pleased to introduce a new set of functionalities available in our powerful Volia Smart HD set-top-box, as well as in new devices and areas where you can take advantage of Volia interactive TV. In addition to these exciting steps of feature extensions, we are delighted to expand our services in cooperation with such recognised worldwide brand as Samsung,” said Volia CEO Gyorgy Zsembery.
