Sony sells a million PS4 consoles in one day

Sony said that it sold 1 million units of its new PlayStation 4 console in the first 24 hours after it went on sale in the US and Canada.

The console was released in North America on November 15. At the same time Sony launched Video Unlimited, its premium digital streaming video service, for the games system.

President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Andrew House, praised the “phenomenal” consumer reaction to the console and thanked PlayStation fans for their continued support.

“Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29,” he said.

Sony’s Video Unlimited service lets users rent and buy new blockbuster movies, catalogue titles and TV shows from major and independent studios. Content is available on the service in 1080p high definition or standard definition.
