The Weather Channel in the US has partnered with video and broadband technology provider Arris, using the latter’s encoders and decoders to deliver “more regionalised data and linear services.”
The network is using the Arris DSR-4440 and DSR-4460 integrated receiver decoders (IRDs) to optimise its network and reduce bandwidth demands.
It is also upgrading its satellite network using Arris MPEG-4 SE-6000 encoders and IRDs that enable MPEG-4 distribution via satellite to affiliates.
The Weather Channel said that these would address “immediate needs for network capacity for more regionalised data, as well as future unique content experiences.”
