Mediaset reports strong channel ratings

Italian media giant Mediaset said that its domestic channels were the most popular among 15 to 64 year-olds in the first nine months of 2013, as its pay TV revenues also climbed to €410.3 million.

Announcing its results for the first nine months of the year, Mediaset said that Canale 5 was Italy’s leading channel with a 17.1% audience share in primetime and 15.8% over the full day. In total, Mediaset’s Italian channels took 34.7% of audience share.

In Spain, the Gruppo Mediaset España channels achieved took a 28.9% audience share, with Telecinco confirming its position as Spain’s most popular prime time channel with 13.3% of the audience.

Elsewhere, the firm said that premium pay TV revenues were €410.3 million in the first nine months, up 7.3% year-on-year. However, the firm’s overall consolidated net revenue was €2.39 billion, down compared to €2.66 billion a year earlier.

EBIT rose to €109.6 million, compared with €46.9 million last year, while the group’s net loss for the period came to €27.3 million, an improvement on the €45.9 million loss recorded during the same period in 2012.
