Sky breaks on-demand viewing records

UK pay TV operator Sky said that the recent launch of its Karl Pilkington-fronted  Sky 1 show, The Moaning of Life, broke On Demand and Sky Go viewing records.

Sky’s director of entertainment channels, Stuart Murphy, said the series premiere was downloaded more 100,000 times via Sky’s On Demand service and there were just under 100,000 views through Sky Go, via laptop, mobile or tablet devices.

More than 2.5 million people also watched the first episode live or as a Sky+ DVR recording in the seven days after the first episode went out, Murphy said.

The show has also been available on Sky’s On Demand preview service, which gives viewers the chance to watch the opening episodes of a number of shows before they’ve even been on air. Murphy said: “We’re working on making yet more of our shows available in this way.”
