RGB Networks launches cloud DVR platform

Technology provider RGB Networks has launched CloudXtream DVR, a cloud-based DVR platform for cable operators and other video service providers at the Cable-Tec Expo show in the US.

The platform, built on RGB’s network DVR (nDVR) product suite, is said by RGB Networks to overcome the storage challenges of cloud-based DVR thanks to the use of its Just-in-Time-Packaging technology, which packages programmes into the appropriate streaming protocol only when requested by a subscriber.

RGB has teamed up with cloud automation systems services provider Sequencia to develop the product.

“Our CloudXtream DVR solution enables cable operators and other VSPs to marry our proven software-based transcoding and packaging solutions with the advantages of Cloud architectures to quickly and cost-effectively deploy nDVR services that can easily scale to meet subscriber demand,” said Simone Sassoli, vice president of marketing and business development at RGB Networks. “CloudXtream DVR will be the first offering in our new CloudXtream initiative, which will facilitate and accelerate the deployment of such new revenue-generating services as multiscreen ad insertion so operators can maximise the opportunities for monetising their TV Everywhere deployments.”
