There were 6.1 million pay TV subscribers in Germany and 6.8 million in all German speaking countries at the end of last year, according to a study by commercial broadcasters’ organisation VPRT.
The German figure compares with 5.4 million subscribers at the end of 2011, according to figures compiled by the country’s state media authorities.
The VPRT said that pay TV and video-on-demand revenues grew at a double-digit rate in 2012, rising to €1.84 billion in Germany and about €2 billion for all German speaking countries. The VPRT estimated that the comparable German figure for 2011 was €1.46 billion.
