Google expands Fiber to Utah, faces competition in Texas

Google is to begin offering its Google Fiber ultra-high-speed internet service in Provo, Utah this month following the model of its Google Fiber network in Kansas City, where it offers speeds of up to 1Gbps.

The move follows Google’s acquisition of city ISP iProvo in April. Subscribers to the existing Veracity Network can begin signing up to be upgraded to Google Fiber this month. New customers will be able to sign up from January.

Google has announced that it will begin building a high-speed network in Austin, Texas next year. The move was followed by an announcement by Dallas-based AT&T that it would also roll out high-speed internet services in Austin. AT&T plans to begin offering 300Mbps services in December.
