Digisoft.tv launches ‘virtual set-top box’ for smart TVs

TV technology provider Digisoft.tv has launched what it describes as a ‘virtual set-top box’, a software product which brings all the services of a hybrid set-top box to connected TVs.

According to Digisoft.tv the virtual box can boost the smart TV market by removing capex costs associated with the technology.

Digisoft.tv said it was focusing its strategy on commercially adept smart TV manufacturers that have endorsed HTML5 and CE-HTML as open development standards.

Separately, content security specialist Irdeto’s product set is to include Digisoft’s Iris HTML5 middleware, and Digisoft will make the virtual set-top available as part of Irdeto’s multi device strategy.

“This is a logical extension of our Hybrid STB,” said Fearghal Kelly CEO of Digisoft, “It’s an app that gives you all the functionality of a physical STB without the capex costs, it’s easy to update, and delivers multi-room efficacy with a network PVR. We believe that the virtual STB should be part of any IPTV strategy.”
