Virgin Media’s business unit has been contracted to supply a Wide Area Network to connect the Vue chain’s 82 cinemas across the UK.
The service will enable the Vue chain to more easily transfer digital copies of movies between screens. Set to go live in early 2014, the WAN will also mean screens can be monitored from one central location, capturing customer data and enabling the chain the adjust its schedule to accommodate demand as well as improving its ticket purchasing process, according to Virgin Media.
“The evolution of technology has triggered a massive change within our industry,” said Roland Jones, IT director, Vue Entertainment. “It was critical that we upgraded to a solution that could give us the speed and resiliency we need to deliver the next generation of cinematic experience to our customers. The great thing about Virgin Media Business’ network is that it will allow us to not only enhance the movie experience, but staff will see big improvements in the way they work.”
