Sports channel Eurosport has said it attracted audiences of over 50 million for each of the major event broadcast on its channels this summer.
Eurosport’s audience for its coverage of the centenary Tour de France attracted 53 million viewers, its best audience reach since 2009, while its coverage of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup attracted 54.1 million throughout the tournament across Eurosport and Eurosport 2, up 16% on 2011. Coverage of the UEFA Women’s Euro drew 55 million viewers, up 53% on the 2009 competition, while the swimming and athletics World Championships in Barcelona and Moscow also broke the 50 million mark respectively with 50.3m and 51.8m viewers, up 45% and 22% respeciely on the 2011 competitions.
Eurosport’s coverage of the US Open tennis tournament attracted 55.4 million viewers across the two channels, up 3% on the previous year. Coverage of the tournament on mobile attracted 556,000 daily visitors on Eurosport.com, up 77%.
