Virgin Media to reduce headcount

UK cable operator Virgin Media is to cut 600 senior and middle management posts as new owner Liberty Global seeks to trim costs, according to press reports.

According to the MediaGuardian website, Virgin Media informed its staff yesterday of a 90-day consultation period to cut its staff numbers by about 4%.

Liberty Global will reportedly seek to cut jobs to remove dupication and achieve management synergies following its takeover of the UK operator, with about a quarter of the company’s 120 top-tier managers and executive directors expected to go.
