Maxdome launches in Austria

ProSiebenSat.1-owned video-on-demand service Maxdome has launched in Austria.

Maxdome offers about 50,000 VoD titles, subscription VoD and a range of download-to-own versions of just-released US series. The service will be available to Austria’s 2.6 million households on the web and as an app on Samsung smart TVs.

“The launch in Austria is a big step for us. We are expanding our technical reach by 2.6 million households. Austrians have a high affinity for online media and, thanks to the expansion of the broadband network, the technical conditions are in place for the launch. We feel this step has tremendous potential,” said Andreas Heyden, managing director of Maxdome.

The launch of Maxdome in Austria follows this week’s abandonment of plans by German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF to launch joint online video-on-demand service Germany’s Gold, following  objections by German regulator the Federal Cartel Office.
