Viacom partners with Brightcove on mobile apps

Viacom has partnered with Brightcove to deliver native video apps across mobile devices and games consoles.

Viacom brands including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central will use Brightcove’s Video Cloud platform and its native video player solutions for Apple iOS, Google Android and Xbox devices.

Brightcove said this will allow it to deliver high-quality, long-form video experiences that include support for closed-captioning, authentication, audience measurement and in-stream advertising.

“Consumers today want to access their favourite shows from any device at any location. Brightcove’s solutions remove the complexity of video publishing and distribution across devices and makes it easy for us to expand our second screen and TV Everywhere offerings,” said David Kline, chief information officer at Viacom.

The firm will first launch native video apps for the iPhone, iPad and Xbox, with Android smartphones and tablets to follow later.

The MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central apps will include TV Everywhere authentication support, enabling Viacom to deliver long-form premium content to these devices.
