Thomson Video Networks and httv team up for DVB-T2 and OTT
Hybrid TV technology specialist httv and compression specialist Thomson Video Networks have teamed up to offer an end-to-end HbbTV Platform for DVB-T2 and OTT markets. A joint demonstration will be showcased at IBC 2013 on Thomson Video Networks’ stand.
Thomson Video Networks and httv have decided to join forces to offer a product for emerging markets switching from analogue to DVB-T2 platforms, especially in Asia. A first demonstration of their cooperation was showcased at the end of July 2013 at the Thaibex exhibition in Thailand followed by a demonstration at Digital TV Life at the end of August 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
IBC 2013 will see the pair offer a joint solution for OTT markets. The IBC joint demonstration will showcase how various HbbTV 1.5 services, including OTT video services streamed using MPEG-DASH, can be delivered alongside live broadcast services.
The demonstration is based on httvStream, httv‘s HbbTV compliant play-out solution, and Thomson Video Networks’ ViBETM EM4000 HD/SD encoder, ViBE VS7000 multi-screen video platform and Flextream 2.0 statistical multiplexing technology.
“Today’s broadcasters are looking for solutions to deliver new services such as HbbTV 1.5 that perfectly complement their premium live broadcast content in the most cost-effective, bandwidth-efficient manner possible, on every platform and device,” said Eric Gallier, vice-president of marketing, Thomson Video Networks. “Working with httv, we can help our joint broadcast customers to continue expanding their audience by enhancing the viewer experience and engagement.”
“httv and Thomson Video Networks bring decades of experience and innovation in the interactive television business”, said Regis Saint Girons, CEO of httv. “By combining our complementary strengths and worldwide presence, we can help our customers to reduce time to market in their digital switch off and launch innovative OTT services.”
Thomson Video Networks will exhibit at IBC on stand 14.A10 and httv will exhibit on stand 5.B18
