NBCU’s Telemundo channel launches in Africa

The international Telemundo channel has launched in Africa.

The pay TV network is distributed by the channels division of Telemundo owner NBCUniversal, which has struck a deal with the regional DTH platform DStv.

The agreement with the MultiChoice-owned pay TV operator has paved the way for the channel to launch in 48 African countries, starting today, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe. It will also be carried in Portuguese in Angola and Mozambique .

The channel carries Telemundo’s own line-up of telenovelas and launch titles includePrecious Rose, Aurora and My Heart Beats for Lola Volcán, which will be exclusive to the channel and seen in the region for the first time.

Telemundo said it has lined up 1,400 hours of telenovelas for the new network.
