Global tablet sales grew 65% year-on-year in the second quarter to reach 51.9 million units, according to research by Futuresource Consulting.
According to Futuresource, total tablet sales this year will exceed 252 million units, an annual growth rate of 63%.
Penetration in the US is now approaching approaching 33%, but growth in North America remains strong at 64% for the quarter year-on-year, compared with 73% in western Europe and 110% in emerging markets.
The average trade price of tablets fell 25% year-on-year to US$272 (€206 million) for the second quarter, according to Futuresource, with smaller screen devices now making up more than 50% of total shipments.
