Opera partners with Dailymotion on TV app technology

Mobile web browser firm Opera Software has launched a next-generation TV app technology and has signed up French video site Dailymotion as its first partner for the service.

The Opera TV Snap technology is designed to transform online video into apps for connected TV, allowing content owners to repurpose their online video channels into ready-to-run HTML5 apps for the Opera smart TV app store.

Dailymotion said official users can now submit their channels as apps by visiting the Opera TV Snap website, filling in a description of the channel and clicking submit, with the app creation process completed in under a minute.

“Opera TV Snap will help brands and content owners effortlessly reach new audiences, while bringing a greater choice of popular video to viewers,” said Aneesh Rajaram, Opera Software’s senior vice-president for TV and devices.

“The big screen is a fast growing new territory for online video, and Dailymotion is proud to provide a new tool to its content partners to benefit from that growth,” added Vincent Martin, Dailymotion’s VP of media development.
