Wand patent hints at Apple TV developments

The next generation of Apple TV could include a motion-sensitive wand remote that includes fingerprint recognition technology, according to Forbes, citing a recently-filed Apple patent.

The ‘scroll bar with video region in a media system’ patent, dated last month, refers to an electronic device that is controlled by an associated “remote wand” that may include thumbprint or fingerprint sensing components to identify the person using it.

The patent also said that the electronic device may use the fingerprint to detection to cross-reference with a library of known prints, in order to authenticate or log-in the user and could then load “content specific to the identified user” such as a profile, or access to recordings. It could also be used to offer parental control options to restrict content.
