European industry players offer support for UHDTV logo

European broadcasters, consumer and professional electronics manufacturers, satellite operators and national HD Forums have agreed a series of measures to further the development of ultra-high-definition TV in Europe.

The European Broadcasting Union hosted a meeting of interested parties in Geneva last week under the aegis of the Forum for Advanced Media in Europe (FAME), which agreed, among other things, to collaborate on a common logo for UHDTV display devices and closer engagement with the European Commission on related matters.

Broadcasters and other interested parties will collaborate with DigitalEurope, representing the consumer electronics manufacturers, on the logo.

The UHDTV discussions are being chaired by Hans Hoffman head of the unit on media fundamentals and production technology at the EBU and Sky Deutschland’s head of innovation and standards, Stephan Heimbecher.

“This is the time to act together in the interests of the European public and industry, including the creative sector, and to create the right technical conditions in the full eco-chain for the launch of UHDTV,” said Hoffman.
