Networking specialists D-Link, which makes devices including routers, modems and network cameras, has denied that it is acquiring US cloud DVR service Boxee.
Though D-Link is the manufacturing partner behind the Boxee Box, D-Link’s president for Europe Kevin Wen denied press speculation that it is a potential suitor for the business.
“If they’ve been acquired by another company, we believe we will continue to partner with Boxee,” said Wen, adding that, if true, news of a possible takeover could emerge next week.
However, he said that he could confirm D-Link was not taking over the business.
The news follows a recent report by tech site VentureBeat claiming that Boxee has been acquired and is due to imminently announce details of the deal. It cited device manufacturing firms like D-Link and Cisco as having the most to gain from such a deal.
An earlier story by All Things D claimed that the web TV firm has been seeking a buyer or looking to raise “a big investment round” since hiring financial advisor Allen and Co in February.
