Opera Software partners with Kathrein TechnoTrend

Norwegian software provider Opera is due to power Kathrein TechnoTrend set-top boxes through a deal with the digital TV receiver supplier.

The new set-top boxes, which are being previewed at ANGA COM this week, will run the Opera Devices Software Develop-ment Kit (SDK). This will be used to render over-the-top services including video-on-demand and smart TV portals.

Kathrein TechnoTrend said the deal would allow it to deliver a more interactive experience for viewers, with the Opera Software bringing standards support and superior performance to the rendering of HbbTV services.
The Opera Devices SDK features advanced support for web standards, such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, SVG, 2D Canvas and WebGL.

“Today’s viewers are rightly demanding more from their home entertainment. The Opera Devices SDK helps set-top-box and other device manufacturers to bring a more interactive and entertaining experience to their customers, and Kathrein TechnoTrend users are set to enjoy what they have in store,” said Aneesh Rajaram, senior vice president for TV and devices, Opera Software.

The set-top boxes will ship internationally later in 2013 and will combine the Opera software with Kathrein TechnoTrend’s own middleware solutions.

The Kathrein TechnoTrend stand can be found in booth B19, hall 10.2
