Apple ordered to pay private copy taxes
The French Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris has ordered Apple to pay €5 million to Copie France after failing to pay taxes on devices that can make private copies of content.
France levies a ‘private copy’ tax on the sale of devices, including tablets, which is then redistributed to content rights holders.
Copie France claimed the US consumer electronics giant owed it €7.2 million for 2011 on the sale of its tablets.
