VGTRK launches new history channel for Russia

Russian state broadcast organisation VGTRK has launched a new channel, Historya, designed to complement existing thematic channels including Nauka 2.0 (Science 2.0) and Moya Planeta.

The channel’s launch today is timed to coincide with the date celebrated in Russia as marking the country’s victory in the Second World War.

According to reports, the majority of Historya’s content will be produced internally by VGTRK, with the remainder imported from international broadcasters.

The channel, which will be headed by Alexey Denisov, will be the 10th thematic channel to be launched by VGTRK and will be distributed on cable, satellite and IPTV networks in Russia and other CIS countries.
