UK media firms still creating new jobs, but at lower rate

Just over half of UK firms in the media sector are expected to create new jobs this year, down from the two thirds of media firms that created new jobs in 2012, according to the Barclays Job Creation Survey.

According to the survey, 56% of firms in the media sector will be creating new jobs this year, compared with 66% in 2012. The new figure is consistent with the national cross sector average, also 56%.

According to Barclays, 84% of media firms are not expecting to lose jobs this year. Twenty-eight per cent are expected to create senior management roles, while 91% will be creating middle management or skilled positions, compared with 39% and 83% respectively in 2012.
