Polish IPTV service provider Netia has signed a deal with UPC Polska to buy a part of the former Aster cable operator’s network.
The deal will see Netia take network capacity in Warsaw and Krakow. UPC agreed to buy Aster in 2011 and as part of the approval the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection classified this part of the network for resale.
Netia said the deal would strengthen its infrastructure position in the residential market in these regions, where it has not hold a strong footprint to-date.
The acquired network reaches 446,000 households and the transaction increases the reach of Netia’s proprietary network by 17% to 2.8 million households.
