TV streaming to hit tipping point

The number US web users who watch TV shows online via any device will reach a “critical tipping point” next year, surpassing 50% of the country’s web users, according to new stats.

Emarketer’s new report, called ‘Digital TV and Movie Streaming: A Rising Tide of Devices, Content and Viewing’ predicts that the number of US online TV viewers will reach 145.3 million in 2017, up from 106.2 million in 2012.

“US digital TV and movie content audiences will grow faster than previously expected due to increased viewing on tablets and smartphones, a wave of internet-enabled TVs, and greater content availability,” according to the research firm.
