Ofcom awards local TV licence for Liverpool

UK regulator Ofcom has awarded the new local TV licence for Liverpool to Bay TV Liverpool.

Under its 12-year licence, Bay TV Liverpool, which is chaired by former Liverpool Chamber of Commerce chief executive Jack Stopforth, is expected to cover about 890,000 homes, although total coverage number have yet to be finalised.

Ofcom said it considered that the Bay TV Liverpool bid “demonstrated the greatest understanding of the needs of the local area and put forward programming proposals which would address those needs to the greatest
extent”.

Ofcom received five applications for the L-DTPS digital-terrestrial licence for Liverpool, including applications from Made Television, Metro 8, Our TV  and YourTV Liverpool.
