Orange reports growing second screen use

An average of three-quarters of teenagers in the UK, France and Spain discuss what is being watched on TV using social networks from a mobile device, while eight out of ten use the internet while watching TV, according to new research commissioned by telco Orange.

The Orange Exposure 2012/2013 independent study by TNS into mobile media habits across the UK, France and Spain for the advertising industry also found that adult mobile and tablet users are increasingly ‘snacking’ on their mobile device while watching TV. Nine out of ten consumers in the UK said they access the internet at the same time as watching TV.

According to Orange, this is presenting opportunities for advertisers, with one third of mobile users investigating potential purchases based on something they watched on TV, and over one quarter of mobile users responding to short codes appearing on TV adverts.
