Portugal Telecom has shipped its 500,000th Motorola IPTV set-top box.
The telco operates IPTV services under the Meo brand and has around 1.2 million subscribers. Motorola Mobility has supplied set-top boxes to Portugal Telecom since the launch of its TV platform, initially providing VIP1200E and VIP1216E boxes.
Since then, Motorola has added the VIP1232 set-top, a HD DVR, and has shipped over half a million boxes to Meo customers.
Zeinal Bava, CEO, Portugal Telecom said “Meo is the leader in triple play in Portugal. Our success is due to the future-proof technology we use and interactive services we offer to our customers. Portuguese customers are highly sophisticated and demanding users of technology. This drives our motivation to invest in innovation and cutting-edge technology. Motorola’s set-tops have allowed us to offer the full range of services – from tailored VOD services to time-shift TV – that customers value and see as a clear differentiation from our competitors.”
