Figures show Russian pay TV growth

Russia’s pay TV market was worth RUB35.5 billion (€875 million) during the first nine months of the year, up 18.3% year-on-year.

Figures compiled by analytics company Telecom Daily show that the number of pay TV subscribers in the country increased by 19.6% to 29.3 million in the period ending September, meaning pay TV penetration now stands at 54%, up from 46%.

The number of Russian households taking digital TV services increased by 28.1% to 13.2 million.

Cable remains the leading platform for pay TV, accounting for 58% of households, followed by satellite (35%) and IPTV (7%). The country’s pay TV market is dominated by eight operators, which between them account for 80% of all subscribers. Tricolor is the leading operator with 8.55 million subs, followed by Rostelecom with 6.4 million and MTS with 3.1 million.
