Nordic telco TeliaSonera had 1.29 million TV subscribers at the end of September, up 13.4% year-on-year and up 41,000 on the previous quarter. Broadband subscribers on the other hand increased by only 2.2% to 2.5 million, while fixed voice and VoIP subscribers fell by 11% to 4.35 million.
TeliaSonera recently signed a deal to make HBO Nordic content available to its subscribers the day after the US premiere of each episode. Estonian subsidiary Elion is meanwhile launching a Smart TV solution in partnership with Samsung that will make is TV service available without the need for a set-top box. The system will be rolled out in Sweden and Finland next year.
TeliaSonera’s broadband services arm turned in revenues of SEK8.67 billion (€1 billion), down 5.3% in reported currency terms. Sales were down across all territories except Lithuania, which was boosted by higher revenues from TV and fibre services. EBITDA fell by 7% in reported currency to SEK2.9 billion.
