Universal Networks International has launched HD versions of its Universal Channel and Studio Universal channels on Multichoice’s DStv platform in Africa.
Universal Networks launched a standard definition version of Studio Universal on DStv last October. The channel offers action and comedy movies and has become the number two movie channel in South Africa, according to Universal. The SD version of the Universal Channel, which offers international drama, comedy and crimes series, has seen its audience increase by 60% between January and September 2012 compared to 2010.
“We are marking the phenomenal success of Studio Universal and Universal Channel in Africa with HD launches of both channels. The channels’ high-quality international series and movies, tailored to the local market, have resonated with the African audience and we will continue our investment in the region to further enhance viewer experience,” said Colin McLeod, managing director, emerging markets, Universal Networks International.
