French HD channels to extend reach

HD channels offered by TF1, France Télévisions and M6 are expected to extend their reach over the next few weeks, with 165 HD transmitters being put in service between September and November, following the introduction of 79 transmitters since the start of this year.

The extension of the reach of HD channels on the R5 multiplex will give the three HD channels – TF1 HD, France 2 HD and M6 HD – availability in Brittany in September, Bourgogne, Champagne-Ardenne, Franche-Comté and Lorraine in October, and the Centre, Pays de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes regions in November.

The additions will extend the reach of the HD services from 94% of the metropolitan French population today to 96% by the end of November.

The new transmitter sites will be put in service in time for the launch of six new HD services on DTT – HD1, L’Équipe HD, 6 Ter, TVous La Télédiversité, RMC Découverte and Chérie HD – between the end of the year and 2015.
