Sony chief confirms September Google TV French launch

Sony France will launch its Google TV device on September 24, according to the company’s CEO, Philippe Citroën.

The Sony Google TV set-top will connect to the internet by cable or WiFi and allow TV viewers to navigate via Google’s TV user interface and will give access to services including YouTube and music from Sony Entertainment Network. Citroën told Agence France-Presse that the device would come with a remote control equipped with a keyboard.

Services available on the French version of Google TV will include France Télévisions’ catch-up service Pluzz, according to the report.

There will be two versions of the device – a basic version integrated with a Chrome browser for €199, and a version with an integrated Blu-ray player for about €299 that will be launched in the next few months.

Google TV was officially launched in the UK in July. Sony also launched its Google TV box in Germany at the end of August.
