Nat Geo could be forced out of Ukraine

National Geographic Channel may be banned in Ukraine after local regulators claimed it fell foul of advertising laws.

The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting has claimed that the News Corp-backed factual network does not meet the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and Ukrainian laws.
The statement comes after Nat Geo reportedly aired alcohol advertisements.
”Under the law, Ukraine reserves the right to restrict the rebroadcasting on its territory of programmes containing the advertising of alcoholic beverages,” noted the council’s statement.
The regulator said that if Nat Geo ignored its recommendations, the channel would be excluded from the list of international that meets the requirements of the European Convention on trans-national TV, losing it the right to broadcast in Ukraine.
