SABC launches digital news channel

South African public broadcaster SABC is launching a digital news channel.

The 24-hour channel will initially be available via pay TV platform DStv and will also be available via digital terrestrial television services later this year. It will initially be launched in South Africa but the organisation hopes that the channel will eventually roll out across the continent and is eyeing carriage deals with pay TV platform Multichoice.

“We are ready, the team is busy transforming how it operates to fit in with a 24-hour service approach,” SABC group CEO Lulama Makhobo told local press.
