Mediaset hits out at press coverage

Italian broadcaster Mediaset has struck out at what it sees as excessively negative press coverage of its first-half results.

“Mediaset believes that the tone and the headlines of many business reports in the Italian press commenting on the company’s interim half yearly report for 2012 are simply unacceptable,” said the company. “The Mediaset Group reported a net profit of €43.1 million, nevertheless Italian newspaper readers were given reports in which Mediaset is described as a company in grave difficulty.”

The company struck out at coverage from Italian publishing groups that were themselves “facing extremely difficult times” and said that they should “refrain from misinforming public opinion”.
