Siyaya to test TV service for South African rural areas

South African broadcaster Siyaya has won a test licence to develop a satellite TV service aimed at rural areas of the country.

Siyaya vice-chairman Kgosi Nyalala Pilane told local press that the service was aimed at reaching parts of the country that had yet to access digital TV. The service will offer eight channels, including SABC and e.tv, according to the reports.

In the initial test phase, the service is being made available to 275 households for evaluation.
