France-based set-top and home gateway company Netgem has acquired PlugnSurf, a company that develops 3G and 4G mobile hot spot solutions.
PlugnSurf’s Wobe mobile connectivity device incorporates a technology for automatic off-loading between mobile data and WiFi networks. Netgem said the acquisition would enable it to help telcos optimise their investments in mobile data networks by alleviating the growing congestion on mobile networks, particularly for video streaming.
Christophe Aulnette, CEO of Netgem, said: “With the acquisition of PlugnSurf, we welcome a dynamic and experienced team, with first-hand knowledge of the needs and expectations of mobile operators. This team has developed and brought to market with limited resources an innovative solution which is a natural extension of our offer to telecom operators”.
