Portugal was home to around 3.07 million pay TV subscribers at the end of the first quarter, according to regulator Anacom, a year-on-year increase of 268,000.
Of that total, cable accounted for 1.475 million subs, followed by DTH with 704,000 and FTTH-delivered IPTV services with 307,000. Zon/TV Cabo remained the leading operator, with a 52.8% market share. It has lost ground from a share of 53.9% a year earlier. Portugal Telecom was the second-placed operator with a share of 36.7%, up from 35%. Third placed Cabovisão saw its share decrease to 8.4% from 8.6%.
FTTH-delivered services accounted for about 45.6% of new pay TV customers, followed by cable with 28.8% and xDSL with 20.7%.
