BBC World News breaks 300m homes barrier

The BBC says that its BBC World News channel has increased its footprint by 40 million in the past year, taking it past the 300 million TV homes mark to more than 300 million.

The UK public broadcaster’s international news channel has inked carriage agreements with operators including Comcast in the US, TV4 in Sweden and ERT. in Greece in the past year, driving its increased distribution.

BBC World News Commercial Director Colin Lawrence attributed the increased penetration of the channel to  ‘our audiences increasing hunger for global news they can trust in very turbulent times’.

“In another defining year for news – including major elections in the US, China, Russia, France and elsewhere – we expect the hunger for fair and accurate international news to grow,” Lawrence said. “This should provide another lift in our performance.”
